I ch kann mich noch gut daran erinnern, wie wir als Kinder mit den
Skiern von der Nordkette über Hötting und von der Muttereralm
über die Ferrariwiese bis in die Stadt gefahren sind. Heutzutage
sind wir viel mobiler, haben eine Bahn, die uns vom Zentrum bis ins
Hochgebirge führt. Das bringt enorme Freiheit – nicht nur, was die
Mobilität anbelangt: Viele Skigebiete bieten nicht mehr nur perfekt
präparierte Pisten, vielmehr ist Fahren im freien Skiraum gefragt. In
der Freeride City finden alle, die das Abenteuer abseits der Pisten su-
chen, ihre Spur. Dass Innsbruck in Sachen Skisport so viel zu bieten
hat, ist eine spannende und noch recht junge Geschichte – deren An-
fänge wir in dieser Ausgabe erzählen. Zu Wort kommt dabei auch ei-
ne der erfolgreichsten Skiläuferinnen der Stadt, deren Karriere Mitte
der 1930er-Jahre startete.
Innsbruck ist eine Stadt der Geschichte(n) und die manifestiert sich
in ihrem Erscheinungsbild: Vom Goldenen Dachl über Schloss Am-
bras und die Hofburg bis zu den Seilbahnstationen wird Innsbruck
von hochkarätiger Architektur geprägt und bietet damit all unseren
Besuchern die Möglichkeit, in die verschiedenen Phasen der Entwick-
lung unserer Stadt unmittelbar einzutauchen. Wir laden Sie auf einen
Rundgang ein und erkunden mit Ihnen zeitgenössische Architektur.
Auf Ihrem Erkundungsgang durch unsere Stadt kommt eines ga-

I still remember how we used to speed down the mountains on our
skis all the way into the city centre. These days, we are more mo-
bile than ever. Who would have thought that one day we would use
a railway to take us from the town into the mountains? This brings
enormous benefits, not only referring to mobility: Besides offering
perfectly groomed slopes, most ski areas also provide unlimited
off-piste fun much to the freeriders’ delight.
Innsbruck’s history behind the city’s varied skiing options is quite
a recent but eventful one, whose origins we will reveal in this edition.
Therefore, we have talked to one of the city’s skiing legends, whose
career started in the 1930s and who has shared some interesting in-
sights with us. Besides being sporty, Innsbruck is also full of history,
which becomes manifest in the city’s appearance: From the Golden
Roof and the Ambras Castle to the Imperial Palace and the cable car
stations, Innsbruck is characterized by unique architecture and of-
fers our visitors the opportunity to be immersed directly into all the
various stages of development of our city.
