CAJA: Bitte Flo, sei nicht so bescheiden. Du bist der Boss der Szene,
der Weltelite und auf den Wänden mancher Nachwuchssportler im
Zimmer gehangen.
Caja, was sagt dir der Name Flo Orley?
CAJA: Pohhhh. Flo ist eine Legende auf der ganzen Welt. Mit seinem
Namen assoziiere ich Snowboarden, Freeriden und die Seegrube.
Flo, was sagt dir der Name Caja Schöpf?
FLO: Kommt aus Bayern, ist hierher gezogen, irgendwie hängen ge-
blieben und hat den Wechsel vom Freestyle zum Freeriden sehr er-
folgreich geschafft.
Das Freeriden ist aus dem Snowboarden entstanden, das eine
besonders Lifestyle-geprägte Szene ist.
FLO: Unsere Wurzeln sind die 1980er mit den Anfängen des Snow-
boardens – die waren nämlich in Innsbruck. Damals war alles viel-
mehr ein Lebensgefühl, also die besagte Szene oder eine Bewegung
um den Sport. Irgendwann wurde das Snowboard gegen zwei Bretter
getauscht.
CAJA: Bis heute sind viele Rider der Weltelite in Innsbruck groß gewor-
den. Wir sind eine Brutstätte für Spitzensportler und Freerider.
Was macht ihr zwei, wenn ihr nicht im Gelände seid?
CAJA: Ich arbeite als Sportpsychologin in einem Nachwuchsleistungs-
zentrum eines Fußballvereins an der Schnittstelle zum Profibereich,
bin Sportmodel und hatte diesen Sommer meinen ersten Job als Re-
ferentin zum Thema Motivation.
FLO: Ich betreibe ein Freeride-Center in Innsbruck, bin Moderator, Pa-
ragleiter und Drachenflieger. Solange ich meine Hände bewegen kann,
mache ich mir keine Sorgen um meine Zukunft. ||
W e have managed to steal some precious time from the
two famous freeriders, who usually spend every free mi-
nute drawing lines in the fresh powder snow. Flo speaks
a strong Tyrolean dialect and Caja with a funny Upper Bavarian ac-
cent – not the only reasons that made us smile.
WELCOME: Why is Innsbruck the best place for freeriding?
FLO: Innsbruck is simply unique! The ski areas are conveniently loca-
ted around the city and you can always find a place offering good con-
ditions. We are a freeriding mecca.
CAJA: I am also totally in love with the fun parks and the fact that you
can just quickly put on your touring skis and hike up somewhere close
to your house to unwind after a stressful day.
Why is Innsbruck considered the city of freeriding?
FLO: Nowhere else city and nature are as well connected as in Inns-
bruck: At lunch time, people decide out of the blue to escape the hust-
le and bustle of the capital and go for a quick adventure to the fun
park or to dive into the powder besides the slopes above the roofs of
the city. No matter what you are looking for – Innsbruck and its sur-

Is this the reason why you moved here from Bavaria?
CAJA: I moved to Innsbruck because studies and professional sport
can be easily combined here. America offers that too, but I never wan-
ted to go there…
How did you guys become such freeride fanatics?
CAJA: I grew up in a slopestyle, freestyle and snowboard scene. Later
on, I discovered freeriding as my new passion. After I had been com-
