and so they fought for it. In the course of a public participation
process the urge for such a place became very apparent. As a con-
sequence, a couple of years ago, a redevelopment of the square
Wiltener Platzl took place – which by the way, due to its former
poor appearance, shouldn’t have even been called a square
before that. The residents are of course very happy that they got
their centre back, which now serves as a popular meeting point
and is visited also by many non-residents. Besides the numerous
markets, activities and events that take place, also a lot of unique
shops and restaurants have opened their doors here…
Lost and found
These days, the square Wiltener Platzl attracts a special type of
business. They are all little owner-managed stores and restaurants
that have found a new home in the heart of the district. Sustaina-
bility, uniqueness and handicraft are their most common traits. It’s
a mix of the modern and the traditional, of long-established busi-
nesses and fresh ones – it is this mix that makes this square so ma-
gically attracting. Barbara Wachter with her small store ‘Wohnen
& Schenken’, who has been here for already twenty years and Adi
Rauscher, the owner of the traditional family business ‘Heu&Stroh’
embrace the development that is going on in their neighbourhood.
The ambience at the square is often described as Mediterranean –
it is like a bonding feeling. “The architecture of this historical dis-
trict in combination with the new square and its innovative ideas
creates a truly unique flair,” says Adi Rauscher. “When I visit a city,
it is exactly places like this I am looking for.” Places that preserve
their distinctive character, but at the same time embrace new ideas.
The development in Wilten didn’t remain unnoticed. The new little
centre has made a lot of people curious and has started to become
a popular place leaving its ‘secret spot image’ behind. Its authentici-
ty and relaxed atmosphere act like a magnet. It is especially beauti-
ful during summer, when the little, cosy restaurants invite the guests
to relax in their backyards or on their sunny terraces. On top of that,
the specialised stores provide a true treasure trove for those, who
love the extraordinary. We have visited some of them for you…

tirolermadl
Seit 15.

This shop recently opened its doors - on
the 15th of August 2015 to be precise. The reason for Tanja to start
such a business was that she was always looking for a shop like this,
but couldn’t find one. So she opened tirolermadl, which is Austrian
and means “Tyrolean girl”. The name says it all: Tirolermadl stands for
everything the land of Tyrol has to offer: Rich tradition in combinati-
on with great courage and the pursuit of novelty. Each of this terms is
represented by the carefully selected products ranging from regional
herbal teas and fine jams to hip, fresh nutrition brands.
