The “Wiltener Sängerknaben” – a boys’ choir, whose roots lead back to the choirboys of Emperor
Maximilian I, enthuse with their concerts the young and old. The choir that consists of 160 young
men also goes on tour. Their traditional clothing and their fresh, young voices make them so
popular. Besides a lot of concerts in Wilten, some of them also feature as protagonists in the

The musical highlight of Innsbruck is the “Festival of Early Music” that takes place every year in Au-
gust, during the well-deserved summer break of the Tyrolean State Museum. Baroque operas, con-
certs at historical sites, the “International Singing Competition for Baroque Opera Pietro Antonio
Cesti” for young singers from all over the world – all this shows that Innsbruck is the point of be-
ginning for many artists’ careers and one of the most important addresses for operas and concerts
of this kind. Today’s slogan of the Festival “Stylus Phantasticus” points out that already during the
Renaissance and Baroque époque improvisation was very popular. “Il Germanico” by Porpora and
“Armide” by Lully are the Baroque operas of this year’s programme.
